This Indenture witnesseth that Robert Armstrong now aged eighteen years, by and with the consent of his father hath voluntarily, and of his own will and consent put and bound himself to Kane Jay from this date, for and during the full term of three years next ensuing, during all which time the said Robert Armstrong will serve the said Kane Jay faithfully and honestly and industriously, shall his secrets keep and all lawful commands obey, and at all times protect and preserve the goods and property of the said Kane Jay, nor be absent from his services day or night without leave, and in all things behave himself as a faithful and dutiful minor ought to do during said term. And the said Kane Jay shall teach the said Robert Armstrong the Masons & Brick Layers Trade, and furnish all necessary clothing and to maintain the said Robert Armstrong in meat and drink both food and raiment in a decent and respectable manner and in sickness to furnish all necessary aid.

This Indenture made this 11th day of August A.D. 1868, Between Stephen J. Gorton Ordinary of said County, and Elizabeth Short Carter orphan and minor child of Pocahonta late of said County, deceased, party of the first part. Who by application unto the said Ordinary, do this day voluntarily with her own free will and consent put and bind herself unto William S. Blain party of the second part for the full space and term of ten years. During all which time of ten years said Elizabeth Short Carter will faithfully execute her part of this agreement, observing and obeying fully the commands of the said William S. Blain and in all things deporting and behaving herself as a faithful apprentice to please the said William S. Blain neither revealing his secrets nor at any time leaving or neglecting the business of the said William S. Blain and for and in consideration of the services well and faithfully execute as aforementioned by the said Elizabeth Short Carter of the first part and William S. Blain of the second part, doth covenant, promise and agree to instruct his said apprentice or otherwise cause her the said Elizabeth Short Carter to be well and faithfully instructed in the duties of a thorough house servant and also to read and write the English Language and in the common rules of arithmetic and should also allow and provide his said apprentice with meat and drink and clothing during the said term and all other necessaries meet and proper in sickness and in health and shall also at the expiration of the said term allow to the said Elizabeth Short Carter five dollars and two suits of clothing to be by him the said William S. Blain paid and given to said apprentice.

This indenture made this 15th day of February 1869 between John B. Miller Ordinary of said county party of the first part and Lewis W. Harris party of the second part. Witnesseth that whereas it has been represented to me that Maria Cheese an orphan is now in this county unrepresented. Now I the said John B. Miller Ordinary as aforesaid being invested with full power and authority to bind out all such children, do hereby bind unto the said Lewis W. Harris party of the second part the aforesaid Maria Cheese for and during the minorhood under the following conditions. The said Lewis H. Harris covenants and agrees to instruct the said apprentice or cause her to be instructed in all the duties pertaining to her condition in life also to read and write the English Language and common Rules of Arithmetic and shall also allow and provide his said apprentice with meat and drink and clothing during the said time and also other necessary neat and proper in sickness and in health and shall also at the time of expiration of the said term allow to the said Maria Cheese ten dollars to be by him the said Lewis W. Harris paid to the said apprentice.

This Indenture Witnesseth that Lydia Heresee (a person of color) now aged Fourteen Years, hath voluntarily and of her own free will and accord, put and bound herself to William J. Williams and to serve the said William J. Williams from this date, for and during and until the full end and term of Four Years next ensuing during all of which time the said Lydia Heresee will serve the said William J. Williams faithfully, honestly, and industriously, shall his secrets keep, all lawful commands every where readily obey, and at all times protect and preserve the goods and property of the said William J. Williams not be absent from his service day or night, without leave, and in all things behave herself as a faithful and dutiful minor ought to do, during the said term.
And the said William J. Ordinary of said County, did at the March Term 1868, of the Court of Ordinary, pass and Order that Harrington Holcombe, an orphan, should be bound to the undersigned for a term of seven years. Now therefore, the undersigned undertakes and promises in consideration of the sum of One thousand dollars, as his part to clothe and maintain said Harrington Holcombe in a decent and respectable manner, and to cause said Harrington Holcombe to be taught to read and write the English Language and the usual rules of arithmetic and undertake further to teach or cause said Harrington Holcombe to be taught to be industrious & not to be raised up in idleness & dissipation & the undersigned promises and undertakes, that he will not misuse or ill treat said Harrington Holcombe himself, nor will he [illegible word] or permit it to be don by others, with his knowledge or consent. Tison and not be absent from said service day or night without leave, and in all things behave herself as a faithful and dutiful minor should do during the term.

To Francis M. Scarlett Esq. of said County Greeting--
Whereas Jane Adams
Parland and Frances Ann Parland orphans of John Parland
deceased are possessed of a considerable Estate in their own right--by means
whereof the power of Granting the guardianship of the said Jane Adams Parland
and Frances Ann Parland to us is manifestly known to belong and for the
better securing the estate and more ample maintenance and education of said
orphans--and from the integrity of confidence reposed in you we do hereby commit
the tuition Education and Guardianship of the said Jane Adams Parland and
Frances Ann Parland to you the said Francis M. Scarlett Esq.--you
assenting thereto by your acceptance of these letters herein charging you that
you maintain the cause to be educated said orphans in such manner as shall be
suitable to their interest and circumstances during their minority and that on
inquire into and take charge of their estate both real and personal and all
other things to do which by law you ought to do for your said ward--of all which
a true and perfect account you shall render to the first term of the court of
Ordinary for the said county in every year during your continuance in
office--and lastly we do hereby constitute and appoint you the said Francis
M. Scarlett Esq. Guardian of the aforesaid Jane Adams Parland and
Frances Ann Parland during their minority.

Now therefore the undersigned undertakes and promises in consideration of Three Hundred Dollars on her part to cloth and maintain the said Emeline Spaulding in a decent respectable manner and to cause the said Emeline Spaulding to be taught to read and write the English Language and the usual rules of arithmetic and undertakes further to teach or cause to be taught the said Emeline Spaulding to be industrious and not be be reared up in idleness or dissipation, and the undersigned will undertake that she will not misuse or ill treat the said Emeline Spaulding or suffer it to be done by others with her knowledge or consent, and will also take care of and render medical aid to said Emeline Spaulding, and at the expiration of said term, said undersigned agrees to pay said Emeline Spaulding Fifty Dollars provided said Emeline Spaulding remains in her service [illegible word] said term.

Hutchison party of the second part the aforesaid Nathan Washington for and during his minorhood under the following conditions. The said William R.
