State of Georgia Glynn County}  To the Honorable Superior Court of said County.  The Petition of Elias A. Clubb respectfully showeth, that he is of the age of Fifty one years, that he has resided in said State and County for the last three years, that your Petitioner is of legitimate birth, born in lawful wedlock, the son of James A. Clubb, Sr. & Rebecca Clubb (nee Miller) his wife, that the family name known and respected since the County’ earliest history has become the subject of the idle talker, the hinting and surmising professional gossip, until a story, enlarged at every repetition has passed to the full grown, yet irresponsible scandalmonger and the Repeater of scandal who, true to their instincts, have made the name odious a barrier to social intercourse and a burden to bear.
        Your Petitioner therefore is desirous of assuming the surname of Peerson the family name of his mother's mother, and that himself and wife and five minor children, shall hereafter be known and called by the name of Pearson [sic], and by the name of Peerson be known called and accepted, for all legal and equitable purposes whatsoever, wherefore your petitioner prays (he having given the notices required by law) that by the order and judgment of this honorable Court his name and that of his family aforesaid as heretofore known and called, may be changed to and hereafter be known & called by the name of Elias C. Peerson, Julia V. Peerson, Everitt M. Pearson, J. Blain Peerson and Ethelbert Peerson.  This Dec. 4, 1882.  Elias A. Clubb

        In Glynn Superior Court Dec. Term 1882.  Judgment.  It appearing by the Petition of Elias A. Clubb that he is desirous of changing his name & that of his wife and five minor children, and that he has given the notices required by law in such cases and no objection being made, it is therefore considered by the Court that the name of the said Elias A. Clubb and that of his wife Julia V. Clubb & his minor children, Elias B. Clubb, Henry C. Clubb, Everitt M. Clubb, J. Blain Clubb & Ethelbert Clubb, by which name he or they have been heretofore known, be and the same are hereby changed to that of Elias C. Peerson, Julia V. Peerson, Elias B. Peerson, Henry C. Peerson, Everitt M. Peerson, J. Blain Peerson and Ethelbert Peerson, and that by the said name of Peerson he and they be heretofore taken & known, provided that the said Elias A. Clubb & his family as aforesaid, shall not be released, or in anywise discharged from any obligation or liability that he or they may have been under while bearing the name of Clubb, but that obligations & liabilities shall remain the same as if the name of the said Elias A. NOTICE—Is hereby given that at the next term of the Superior Court in and for said county I shall file my petition in terms of the law, asking His Honor, the Judge of said Court, to grant an order or such other proceedings as may be by the Court required, to change the name of myself from Henry Hamilton Cox to that of Henry Hamilton, the name of my wife, Mary V. Cox, to that of Mary V. Hamilton, and the name of our daughter, Minnie Cox, to that of Minnie Hamilton.  Persons having objections will please make them known.  Henry H. Cox 27 August 1877.

GOODBREAD, D.B. (David)

Superior Court Minutes Vol. 8 pgs. 64-65

Georgia, Glynn County}  To the Superior Court of said County.  The petition of D.B. Goodbread showeth that he is twenty one years old and that he has resided in said County and State for over the period of five years.  And your petitioner shows that he has ever borne and recognized the name of D.B. Goodbread, and is now desirous of changing said surname of Goodbread to that of D.B. Randolph.  And your Petitioner alleges that his reason for seeking to have said name of Goodbread changed to that of Randolph is because of the unpopularity and commonness of said name in the County and State in which your Petitioner resides.  And your Petitioner, because of these facts hereinbefore set forth asks that his said surname of Goodbread be changed to said name of Randolph and be forever hereafter known and called D.B. Goodbread [sic].  And by that name to be known, called and accepted for all legal and equitable purposes whatsoever.  Wherefore your Petitioner prays legal notice having been given as required by law that by order and judgment of this Court his own surname of Goodbread be changed to that of Randolph and be hereafter known and called D.B. Randolph.  And your Petitioner will ever pray so.  January 4th 1882.  Mabry & Borchardt, petitioner's attys.

Georgia, Glynn County }  To the Superior Court of said County.  The petition of Horace B. Goodbread and his wife Mary Isabelle Goodbread, showeth that they are over Twenty one years of age and that they have resided in the County and State aforesaid for over the period of five years, And that one of your Petitioners to wit:  Horace B. Goodbread, is desirous of changing the surname of himself, wife and children, said children being minors and named respectively, Annie Ettie and Alice Mabel Goodbread to the name of Randolph because of the surname of Goodbread which he has borne heretofore being too common in the County in which your Petitioners reside and of the unpopularity of said name.  And your Petitioners, because of the fact hereinbefore stated earnestly desire that their two minor children to wit, Annie Ettie and Alice Mabel as aforesaid be changed from that of Goodbread to that of Randolph and hereafter be known and called Horace B., Mary Isabella, Annie Ettie and Alice Mabel Randolph, and by those names to be known, called and accepted for all legal and equitable purposes whatsoever.
        Wherefore your Petitioners pray, Legal notice having been given as required by law that by order and judgment of this Court their own surnames and the surnames of their said children and the surnames of their future children be changed from that of Goodbread to that of Randolph.  And that your petitioners and their said children be hereafter known and called Horace B., Mary Isabella, Annie Ettie and Alice Mabel Randolph respectively.  And your Petitioners will ever pray so.  December 28th, 1881 Mabry & Borchardt attys.

NOTICE OF INTENTION TO CHANGE NAME—STATE OF GEORGIA—COUNTY OF GLYNN

            All persons interested are hereby notified that I have filed my petition to the December term 1888 of the Superior Court of said court for the purpose of having my name and that my wife changed from Oliver P. and May C. Goodbread by which names we have heretofore been known to that of Oliver P. Felton and May C. Felton.
