Theodore deMroczkowski was born 6 April 1819 in Poland and came to America around 1853 and immediately settled in the state of Georgia. He married Hetty Tharp Alward a few years after his arrival and to this union were born 4 children:  Thaddeus Koscivko born 22 June 1854 in Morris County, New Jersey, died 10 October 1957 in Waycross, Ware, Georgia; George Washington born 22 March 1859 in Georgia, died 17 February 1915 in Dougherty Co., Georgia; Almira born about 1864 in Georgia, died 18 November 1929 in Dougherty County; and Louella Mroczkowski born 17 November 1868 in Georgia, died 7 December 1947 in Dougherty County. Excepting Thaddeus, all of the family were buried in Oak View Cemetery in Dougherty County, Georgia.

According to his obituary, Theodore inherited the title of Count in Poland and was active in politics "during a turbulent period of Polish history, and was banished by those in power". When he came to the United States he engaged in the building industry by becoming an architect. he enlisted in the 2^nd GA Company A and during Sherman's raid on Atlanta, received a wound by minie ball which was later removed and retained by Hetty as a keepsake. Hetty filed for a widow's pension after Joseph died and within the documentation she stated that they were married 1 April 1854 in Morristown, New Jersey and that she was born 10 July 1830 in Somerset County, New Jersey (on another place in the application she gives her birth year as 1831). Theodore was stated to have been born in Warsaw, Poland on 6 April 1819; he enlisted from Atlanta and served for about 2 years in the Confederate Army. Theodore died on 8 February 1906 in Albany, Dougherty, Georgia.

On Theodore's Confederate Pension Application he states that he enlisted in April 1864 and that he had moved to Albany, Georgia by August of 1857 and was employed as a carpenter and a carriage and cabinet maker.
