"Poor Sukey died this morning. Liddy & Linda are yet in a very precarious state. I have great dread lest the death of their Mother will have a seroius effect on them. We attribute poor Sukeys death to her giref for Mily. She seemed to bear Emolines death as well as we could expect, but when Mily died she seemed plunged into a state of apathy from which nothing could rouse her. On Saturday her fever returned & we could do nothing to save her."

In the 1870 Glynn Co., Georgia census, only one Sanders shows up, that of Sanders Gambol. Could this be Neptune Small's brother? A Rachael Wright [70 yrs. old] is living with them, suggesting that he could very well be Neptune's brother, as their sister Linda married James Wright, this could be his mother [Rachael].

Living with Sanders Gambol in 1870, was Eve [female 30 yrs.], Amy Paterson [female 58 yrs.], Perry Patterson [male 19 yrs.], Albert Boom [male 16 yrs.], Henry Boom [male 1 yr.], and Rachael Wright [female 70 yrs.].

I have yet to find any record of a Walter in the family of Neptune & Sukey.

Duncan may have died before 1880. A search for him in the 1880 census covering the whole United States, did not turn up any Duncan Smalls.

Neptune Small [born 1860] may have died before 1880. A search in the 1880 census covering the whole United States, turned up one Neptune born and living in Beaufort Co., South Carolina. He is close to the right age, could be him.

Richard may have died before 1900, a search in the 1900 census for the whole United States turns up several Richard Smalls, and a few of the right age.

Charlotte was a slave on Retreat Plantation, St. Simons Island, and also a neighbor to Neptune Small, Jr. in the 1870 census. Her father's last name could have been Boyd while in bondage, or that could have just been a second name to differentiate him from another Alick

This may not be Liddy (Small) Armstrong's child. However, in most of the records of Anna Matilda (Page) King, it is noted that the slaves all had singular names, so as not to confuse them with others. Meaning, that there were not two Liddys.

William was a slave on Retreat Plantation, St. Simons Island. He, his wife, and first child were listed in Anna Matilda King's inventory at the time of her death. The inventory was dated 11 January 1860.
