Glynn County Plantations

This is by no means a complete listing of plantations in Glynn County, but it is a start. What I have done was made a list for Brunswick which includes plantations on the mainland and then one for the islands, meaning St. Simons, Jekyll, Blythe, etc. Of course more may be added as time goes by, but we will start with what is readily known, and go from there. Some may never have a "bio" written on them, others will have extensive information, or references to books that will better aid you in your studies of Coastal Georgia and her antebellum homes. Some will be transcriptions of narratives already publishes; in those cases, please do not hold the language used against the webmaster; I can't make everyone happy all of time. If you have any plantation information such as family history, photos, maps, or even your finds while walking these beautiful properties, feel free to share them. Today, we are losing these once glorious lands to development, many such neighborhoods not valuing or realizing the history of the land they live upon; many more destroying Native sites and burial grounds for those once enslaved upon the land. |
